Starting Solids & Early Feeding Nutrition Counselling with a Registered Dietitian | Ontario & Nova Scotia
Starting solids is exciting and overwhelming in equal measure. We're here to help.
The window between six months and one year is one of the most important nutritional periods in your child’s life, and one of the most confusing to navigate as a parent. Allergen introduction, baby led weaning versus purees, key nutrients, meal ideas, and the sheer volume of conflicting information online can make something that should be joyful feel like a minefield. We help you cut through the noise with personalized, evidence-based guidance that fits your family and gives you the confidence to make this transition well.

Common Reasons Women Seek Starting Solids & Early Feeding Nutrition Support
You might be here because…

Allergen Introduction Feels Scary
Especially with a family history of allergies, introducing high allergen foods can feel terrifying. You want guidance on how to do it safely and in the right order.

You Don't Know Where to Start
Your baby is ready for solids and you feel completely unprepared. You want a clear, practical starting point that makes sense for your child.

Your Pediatrician Sent You Here
You’ve been referred to a dietitian and you want to make sure you follow through with the right support.

You Have Questions About Baby Led Weaning vs. Purees
You’ve heard about both approaches and you want an honest, balanced conversation about the pros and cons before you decide what’s right for your family.

You Want to Make Sure Your Baby is Getting What They Need
You want validation that your child’s nutritional needs are being met, or guidance on how to close any gaps.

Mealtimes Are Already Stressful
You want practical tips to make feeding enjoyable for your baby and manageable for you.
How Bloom Nutrition Supports Families Through Starting Solids
Every family is different. So is every baby.
Our Approach
We give you the tools and the confidence, not a rigid rulebook.
Introducing solids is not one size fits all, and the goal is never to overwhelm you with more information than you already have. We get to know your child and your family: their health history, developmental stage, feeding cues, and your lifestyle. From there we build a personalized plan that supports your baby’s nutritional needs and developmental milestones while making mealtimes something to look forward to. The decisions are always yours. We just make sure you have what you need to make them well.
What to Expect
We start by getting to know your child, your family, and your goals.
Every session is built around where your baby is developmentally and what you need most as a parent. Depending on your situation, that might look like:
- A clear, step-by-step guide to introducing solids at your baby’s pace
- Allergen introduction guidance, including timing, order, and what to watch for
- An honest discussion of baby led weaning and purees so you can choose what’s right for your family
- Key nutrients to prioritize at each developmental stage
- Snack and meal ideas for babies that work for the whole family
- Tips to make mealtimes enjoyable and to involve your child in food from the start
- Review of relevant bloodwork to confirm your baby’s nutritional needs are being met
- A written summary of your goals and our recommendations, plus recipes and tip sheets to take home
